Australian Watchdog Cracks Down on Illegal Gambling and Lottery Websites

The Australian media watchdog, ACMA, is taking action against illicit international gambling platforms. They recently restricted access to fourteen websites, such as well-known sites like Golden Lady Casino and Spin Samurai. These platforms were discovered to be functioning in breach of Australian regulations.

The ACMA stresses that the appearance of legitimacy for a site doesn’t guarantee it is. They caution Australians about the potential risk of financial loss when engaging with these unregulated platforms. Since 2019, the ACMA has blocked hundreds of these websites, prompting many others to cease operations willingly to evade being targeted.

This recent action follows a cautionary notice given to Tabcorp, a prominent Australian gaming corporation, for providing unlawful live bets on a US college basketball match.

Internet service providers in Australia received instructions to restrict access to two internet lottery platforms, “WeLoveLottery” and “RedFoxLotto.” It seems operating an online lottery in Australia requires governmental authorization, which these entities lacked. This situation marks the initial instance of Australian regulatory bodies implementing such measures against digital lottery providers.
