Australian Watchdog Cracks Down on Illegal Gambling and Lottery Websites

The Australian media watchdog, known as the ACMA, has taken action against numerous unlawful overseas wagering and affiliated websites, restricting their access to Australian bettors.

These platforms were discovered to be in violation of Australia’s 2001 Interactive Gambling Act, prompting the ACMA to instruct internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to them. Among the questionable websites identified were names like Golden Lady Casino, Spin Samurai, and Lucky Dreams – it seems their luck has run out!

In an official announcement, the ACMA emphasized that the mere appearance of legitimacy does not guarantee a website’s authenticity. They stressed that Australians who engage with these illicit services risk losing their hard-earned money due to the lack of protection afforded to them.

This is not the first time the ACMA has taken such measures; they have been actively blocking these dubious websites since 2019, with over 375 blocked to date. Since the crackdown began in 2017, over 150 illegal gambling sites have ceased operations in Australia – a welcome outcome!

The Australian government has implemented measures targeting two internet lottery platforms, “We Love Lottery” and “Red Fox Lottery,” due to their operation without the necessary licensing. This action, spearheaded by the ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority), represents the inaugural instance of such a restriction being enforced, highlighting an increasing endeavor to oversee digital gaming activities within the nation.
