UK Bans Celebrities From Gambling Ads To Protect Youth

The United Kingdom’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is taking strict measures against wagering promotions that target a youthful demographic. Effective October 1, 2022, gaming entities will be prohibited from employing renowned athletes, high-profile individuals, or social media personalities who hold significant sway over those under the age of 18. This encompasses prominent footballers and esports competitors. The ASA aims to safeguard young individuals from the detrimental effects of gambling, and they contend that these revised regulations will have a substantial impact.

The leader of the CAP, Shahriar Coupal, announced the end of an era for gambling advertisements utilizing elements like sports icons, vibrant gaming, and other features potentially attractive to young audiences.

He stressed that these updated guidelines will introduce a fresh chapter in gambling promotions, guaranteeing they are crafted with adults in mind and accurately represent the age-limited status of the products being advertised.
