Belgian Gaming Commission Sets 2024 License Fees and Reports on Gambling Trends

The Belgian Gaming Commission has revealed its pricing structure for licenses in 2024. Fees for operators will differ based on the category of license held, with funds allocated to support the Commission’s operational costs, personnel, and infrastructure.

Minister of Justice Van Tigchelt put forward the fee schedule, which has received endorsement from the Council of Ministers and is anticipated to be implemented soon. The fees span from €123 to €22,085. Unsurprisingly, brick-and-mortar casinos (Class A) along with internet-based casinos and wagering platforms (Class G1) will bear the highest costs, while providers of games of chance via media channels (Class G2) face the lowest fees.

The Belgian Gambling Commission (GC) diligently monitors gambling activities within Belgium. Their role extends beyond simply issuing licenses; they actively observe betting patterns. In a September 2023 publication, they presented findings on young adults aged 18 to 30, revealing that a majority (62%) engage in gambling only monthly or less frequently. However, a concerning statistic emerged: merely a third possess a clear understanding of identifying legitimate gambling websites.

Shifting focus, Pragmatic Play, a prominent player in online casino games, recently established a collaboration with Gaming1, the entity behind the Circus brand. This partnership will introduce Pragmatic Play’s live casino games to the Belgian market, with availability extending to Circus’ online platform in the Netherlands.
