Churchill Downs Inc. Acquires Ellis Park Racing & Gaming in $79 Million Deal

Churchill Downs Incorporated is acquiring Ellis Park Racing & Gaming in a significant $79 million deal! The historic Henderson, Kentucky venue is set for a major transformation.

Famed as the origin of summer thoroughbred racing in Kentucky, the century-old track will undergo facility enhancements under its new proprietor, Churchill Downs Inc.

Moreover, CDI envisions a state-of-the-art track and entertainment destination in Owensboro, featuring 600 captivating historical racing machines, a simulcast wagering section, and diverse dining choices. A recipe for success!

This grand undertaking is projected to require a substantial $75 million investment from CDI, encompassing the purchase price. It’s a daring endeavor poised to invigorate the horse racing sector, stimulate economic growth in both Henderson and Owensboro, and cement Kentucky’s position as a top-tier destination for racing aficionados.

Our team is fully committed to initiating a summer racing schedule at “Pea Patch,” with the goal of retaining more Kentucky-foaled horses and regional conditioners competing locally. We believe this will also attract premier equine competitors from around the nation to the Bluegrass State throughout July and August.

Beshear concluded by stating, “This financial commitment guarantees that our Kentucky horses and equestrian professionals have the optimal year-round racing circuit nationwide, generating employment opportunities both regionally and throughout the commonwealth. Churchill Downs, you are all exemplary corporate citizens and a vital component of Team Kentucky.”
