Belgian Gaming Commission Reminds Operators of Licensing Requirements During World Cup

Belgian authorities have issued a cautionary notice prior to the global football tournament.

Throughout the 2022 World Cup, the Belgian Gaming Commission has urged all operators to maintain adherence to their licensing requirements.

The notification was delivered in the form of a missive reminding F2 license holders (retail gambling operators) of two stipulations within the Belgian Gambling Act – Articles 5 and 6.

Article 5 dictates that a sign must be positioned within one meter of any wagering terminal, reminding players that they cannot utilize loans or advances to place bets. The sign must also indicate that gambling by individuals under the age of majority is unlawful.

Article 6 stipulates that operators must place at least two folders containing information on problematic gambling on a stand beneath the aforementioned sign, ensuring players can readily access this information.

In the preceding month, Belgium implemented two modifications to its responsible gambling regulations. A new weekly loss limit of €200 came into effect, as outlined in a royal decree issued three months prior.

Belgium’s self-exclusion program, the Excluded Persons Information System (EPIS), has also been expanded to encompass retail gambling.
