Detroit Casinos See Slight Revenue Dip in August

The gambling halls of Detroit saw a decrease in earnings in August, with a 1.1% dip compared to the same month last year.

The three commercial gambling establishments in Detroit, Michigan, experienced a 1.1% year-on-year decline in revenue, reaching $104.9 million (£84.3 million/€97.7 million) in August. The city also reported a decrease from the previous month.

The total revenue for August was lower than the $106.1 million reported in August 2022. The monthly total was also 2.2% lower than the $107.2 million reported in Detroit in July.

Specifically, $104.6 million came from table games and slot machines, a slight increase of 0.1% year-over-year. Sports betting qualified adjusted gross revenue (QAGR) was $322,186 on $10 million in wagers.

MGM remains the top performer in Detroit, holding a 47% market share. The casino reported $49.5 million in slot and table game revenue, along with $85,644 in sports betting QAGR.

MotorCity came in second with a 30% market share. Slot and table game revenue reached $30.7 million, with a wagering QAGR of $195,955.

Greektown Casino-Hotel came in third with a 23% market share. The casino reported $24.4 million in casino revenue and $40,587 in sports betting QAGR.

The gambling establishments paid $8.5 million in casino game-related taxes to the state, as well as $16.5 million in wagering and development agreement payments to the city of Detroit.

Additionally, $12,179 in sports betting taxes were paid to the state, along with $14,885 to the city of Detroit.
